Biography Remco van der Gugten
Remco van der Gugten (Heemstede 1942) lived and worked in Heemstede and now lives in Haarlem. He was a student of the Academy '63 there and of the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. In addition to being a painter, he was a sculptor.
There are several characteristic statues in the public space of Haarlem and he plays a modest but important role as the city's public artist. Remco is well known in Haarlem as a jazz musician; he plays the saxophone and is a clarinetist. Some of his work is part of the National Collection. Van der Gugten was a member of “Art is our Purpose” in Haarlem.
