Erwin Kettemann was a German artist best known for his landscape paintings of the Alps. Kettemann's works employ a systematic approach and balanced composition, wherein rocky terrains are cut through by streams, paths, and fences. He painted from his studies of the Dolomites in northeastern Italy and sometimes of the German Wetterstein. His work is composed of lush, misty pastel pinks and blues contrasted against a central swath of rich brown and black. Kettemann's style is exemplary of traditional German landscape painting at the turn of the 20th century.
