Biography Cornelia Schleime

Schleime (Berlin 1953) is a German painter, performer, author and filmmaker. Born in the GDR and educated in Dresden at the Academy of Fine Arts. Member of the underground Art Scene. Awarded with the Hanna Höch Lifetime Achievement from the state of Berlin. In 1992 she was the Project and Work Fellowships Kunstfonds Bonn - Prize Winner of the project "Mauer im Kopf", Foundation for New Cultural Studies in Kenya. Most probably this work was made or contemplated in Kenya. 

Schleime has focused since the 1990s on figures and large-format portraits.  Through the intuitive act of drawing or painting, she turns photographs into something creative of her own, projecting them in new roles, symbolically emphasizing the poses encountered or highlighting aspects with a touch of fantasy and irony.
