Jos van de Wall Perné worked in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Hilversum. He was a (copper) engraver, lithographer and painter. He was educated at the applied arts school in Haarlem and the Akademie der Bildende Künste in Munich. He is best known for his paintings in the peasant genre, flower still lifes, figure representations, harbour views such as this one and (church) interior (including the St. Bavo in Haarlem). Often there were also evening performances.
