Piet Wiegman (1930-2008)

Piet Wiegman (Heemstede 1930-2008 Heemstede) received his first instructions from his father Jan Wiegman, who also advised him to become a painter. He apprenticed with Piet Kloes in Bennebroek and took lessons from H.F. Boot.

His uncles Piet and Matthieu Wiegman were also painters. With his expressionist uncle Matthieu, he traveled to Mallorca. There, he mainly drew café scenes which he could sell to make a living. During that time, he created very strong compositional work. He painted, drew, and etched in an expressionist style. Piet's home was a gathering place for local Haarlem painters and writers. Piet Wiegman was a member of "Kunst zij ons Doel" in Haarlem. The last years of his life were plagued by illness, and his productivity declined.
