Biography Georgette Tavé

Georgette Tavé (Elbeuf 1925 - 2008 Paris)was born  into a family of fabric traders. Her father was opposed to her vocation as a painter and it was only after her marriage that she could begin artistic training, first with Jean Souverbie, then with André L'hote.

The importance of the female body and its placement in the canvas and  the cubizing fragmentation of colors and shapes is her signature. The portrait of Coco Chanel established her career. In 1966, Tavé painted two paintings of the famous Mademoiselle. Coco buys the most flattering. Tavé keeps the second, incisive, brutal and exhibits it. The success was immediate and worldwide. We like her paintings for the bright colors and vivid joie de vivre.

She became more famous in Japan than in France, more famous in Cannes than in Paris. Her painting, a vigorous figuration and strong colors seduces collectors and, if it is not recognized by the official Parisian critic, she goes from exhibition to exhibition all over the world. In 1974, she turned again to the nude and then to the colors of the Mediterranean gardens. She died in 2008 in her Parisian apartment. Painting Georgette Tavé
