Biography of Wim Steins (Kerkrade 1953)
Steins studied from 1973 to 1977 at the City Academy for Applied Arts in Maastricht. He worked for four years in various studios in Germany and at the Gieterij Sijen. Around 1980 he started as an independent visual artist and was mainly active as a sculptor. He makes both outdoor sculptures and smaller works.
With bulls, horse torsos and bronze nudes that seem to dance as a feather on graceful pedestals, Wim Steins enchants his spectators with his sculptures. The contrast between static-dynamic and abstract-figurative still intrigues him. Monumentality and dynamism are the pivotal points of his work. It is modern sculpture in which human values in form and movement trigger the discussions.
His sculptures have been on display for years in sculpture garden De Pruimengaard in Wijk bij Duurstede, among others.
