Every one knows the Chrysler Building in New York and once you have been there you feel at home when looking at this work by Peter Pratt, who worked and lived in Amsterdam as well. The scene however feels odd as well because of the wet streets and the way the 'realistic' painting is done. It is like works by Edward Hopper where the solitude within the modern city is captured and a remindful look at the life of Americans. It is real and suggestive at the same time and shares the mood of the big city in the fifties.
