Biography Klaas Gubbels
Gubbels (Rotterdam 1934) was born with art from his father Kees Gubbels (1894-1974), who founded Kunsthandel De Brug during the war. In the 1950s Gubbels studied advertising painting at the Technical School in Rotterdam. He then found work at the Bijenkorf's advertising studio and took an evening course at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts. After his parents' divorce, Gubbels left for Arnhem in February 1952, where he studied until 1958 at the Academy of Art Exercises. He also attended evening classes in sculpture. 'It is nothing, almost boring, but there is nothing boring about my work. Nothing is the same.'
