This gorgeous gouache depicts a roaring twenties cocktail party. The atmosphere is lively, with people dressed in flapper-style dresses and dapper suits, sipping cocktails and socializing. The air is filled with the sounds of jazz music and the clinking of glasses, as people dance, laugh, and converse.

Biography Kurt Heiligenstaedt
Kurt Heiligenstaedt (1890-1964) was a German artist, poster designer, commercial draftsman and caricaturist. He started his career in 1907 at a book publisher and in the meantime studied at the private, Jewish Reimann School of Arts and Crafts in Berlin with Professor Karl Klimsch.
After that, Kurt worked as a commercial artist, poster artist and caricaturist. His works have been published in Funny Sheets, Meggendorfer Sheets and Sport in the Picture, among others. He is characterized by elegant humorous drawings. He designed countless advertising and film posters. His most famous work is the poster for Persil from 1922 with the famous white Persil lady.
From 1935, Heiligenstaedt specialized in erotic scenes in contemporary costumes that are as naturalistic as they are elegant. In 1959, in the follow-up to Simplicissimus, he carried out one of the rather rare confiscation actions at the time by indicating nipples on the cover. Kurt Heiligenstaedt died in Berlin in 1964 at the age of 73.
