Now in 't Singer: La Grande Bleue; Until 7-1-'24
Since around 1870, the Mediterranean coast has been a great attraction to artists. Just like their customers, they traveled to the sea because doctors told them it was good for their health. Artist villages also emerged among the spas in L'Estaque, Collioure and Cagnes-sur-Mer. The intense light, sharp contours and bright colors of the Mediterranean also provide new artistic insights and even painting methods. The use of color is brighter and the design language is therefore more pronounced.
The new exhibition at Singer focuses on Dutch and Flemish artists and places them in the context of their European inspirations. In the exhibition paintings by artists who worked on the Mediterranean with the enchanting azure water surface of La Grande Bleue nearby.
