Jan Engelchor was a painter and sculptor. He followed the Rijksakademie van Beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) Amsterdam. In 1946, he was awarded the Cohen Gosschalk Prize. Lived in Paris with his wife (sculptor Margot Hudig-Heldring) and two children. Later he worked in Huizen and passed away in Bussum. He made sculptures and painting both abstract and more realistic work of animals (horses, insects a.o.), flowers and military. A number of his monumental sculptures and statues were given an important destination in the Netherlands.
